Garment Contrustion - Bias Cut Skirt

AGE 18+ WOMEN ONLY CLASS - 6 hours class

This course is suitable for learners who can confidently sew and have experience sewing curves.  It is also ideal for intermediate to advanced makers who wish to expand their skills in pattern drafting and refine their garment construction techniques.

  • Calculate the necessary measurements for creating a bias cut skirt
  • Understand and apply correct techniques for folding, pinning and fabric laying
  • Draft a custom bias cut skirt based on personal measurements directly onto the fabric
  • Sew a bias cut skirt using appropriate techniques to prevent fabric stretching or warping
  • Allowing for bias drop and correcting the hemline
  • Draft and finish a waistband using professional garment construction methods​
  • Invisible zip insertion
You will need to bring

Please do not bring heavy, stretchy or silky fabric and avoid directional and striped prints.

  • 3.5m to 4.5m (144 cm/55" wide) cotton lawn fabric
  • 1m fusible interfacing
  • Matching colour sewing thread
  • 23cm (9") Invisible/Concealed zip (not a standard zip)

Tools and equipment will be provided; we cannot accommodate using your sewing machine.

Tea and coffee will be provided; we recommend bringing a light lunch/snack, or you can visit one of the local cafes/shops.
