Garment Construction – Palazzo Pants
ONLY SUITABLE FOR LEARNERS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE PATTERN DRAFTING - TROUSER BLOCK COURSE
AGE 18+ WOMEN ONLY - 8 hours class
This lesson introduces learners to adapting a basic trouser block to create palazzo pants, a wide-leg trouser style known for its fluid silhouette and comfort. Learners will explore how to manipulate pattern pieces by increasing leg width, adjusting hem and waist shaping, and maintaining balance and proportion. The lesson also covers fabric selection, grainline considerations, and construction techniques specific to wide-leg trousers. By the end of the lesson, learners will produce a palazzo pants pattern and construct a finished garment using correct sewing and finishing methods.
Key Learning
- Identify the key design features of palazzo pants and distinguish them from basic straight-leg trousers
- Adapt a basic trouser block to create a palazzo pants pattern by widening the leg evenly while maintaining correct fit at the waist and hips
- Apply correct pattern manipulation techniques, including slash-and-spread, grainline control, and hem adjustment
- Lay out, cut, and assemble palazzo pants accurately using the adapted pattern
- Construct palazzo pants using correct sewing order, including side zipper waist finishing, and hem techniques
