Garment Construction – Panelled Skirt
AGE 18+ WOMEN ONLY CLASS - 6 Hours class
This course is suitable for learners with basic machine-sewing experience and for those new to pattern drafting and dressmaking. It is also ideal for intermediate to advanced makers who wish to expand their skills in pattern drafting and refine their garment construction techniques.
Key Learning
- Identify and record all measurements required to draft a six-panel skirt
- Demonstrate accurately how to take specific body measurements needed for drafting
- Calculate the necessary measurements for creating six-skirt patten
- Draft a six-panel skirt pattern to correct scale and proportion
- Apply correct techniques for fabric laying, pinning, and cutting based on the drafted pattern
- Insert a centre zip accurately and neatly​
- Draft and finish a waistband using professional garment construction methods
- Construct and finish waistband finish
- Construct a panelled skirt to individual measurements
You will need to bring
Please do not bring heavy, stretchy or silky fabric.
- Pattern drafting paper or a roll of white/brown paper
- 3m to 4m (144 cm/55" wide) cotton (poplin/lawn) fabric
- Matching colour sewing thread
- Half to 1m of fusible interfacing
- 23cm/9" invisable/concealed zip (not a standard zip)
Tools and equipment will be provided; we cannot accommodate using your sewing machine.
Tea and coffee will be provided; we recommend bringing a light lunch/snack, or you can visit one of the local cafes/shops.
