Garment Construction – Pencil Skirt
ONLY SUITABLE FOR LEARNERS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE PATTERN DRAFTING - SKIRT BLOCK COURSE
AGE 18+ WOMEN ONLY CLASS - 6 Hours Class
This course is designed for learners who already have a skirt block, and foundational sewing skills and want to develop expertise in pattern adaptation and garment construction. Participants will learn how to transform a basic sleeve block into a complete pencil skirt, covering every stage from pattern adaptation to fabric preparation, cutting, and complete garment assembly.
Key Learning
- Identify the design features and measurements required to adapt a basic skirt block into a pencil skirt
- Draft and refine a pencil skirt pattern from an existing skirt block
- Calculate and apply ease and shaping adjustments appropriate for a pencil skirt silhouette
- Prepare and insert a single centre back vent for ease of movement
- Apply correct techniques for fabric laying, pinning, and cutting for a pencil skirt
- Insert an invisible zip accurately and neatly
- Draft and finish a waistband using professional garment construction methods
- Construct a fully complete pencil skirt to individual measurements
You will need to bring
Please do not bring heavy, stretchy or silky fabric.
- Your skirt block pattern
- Your appropriate choice of pattern drafting paper
- 1.5m to 2.5m (approx 144 cm/55" wide) cotton twill or a light denim fabric
- half a metre fusible interfacing
- Matching colour sewing thread
- 23cm (9") Invisible/Concealed zip (not a standard zip)
Tools and equipment will be provided; we cannot accommodate using your sewing machine.
Tea and coffee will be provided; we recommend bringing a light lunch/snack, or you can visit one of the local cafes/shops.
