Garment Construction - Shalwar
AGE 18+ WOMEN oNLY - 6 hours class
This course is designed for learners with foundational sewing skills who wish to develop expertise in pattern drafting and garment construction. Participants will create patterns to their own measurements and construct a complete garment from start to finish, covering every stage from measurement taking and pattern creation to fabric preparation, cutting, and full garment assembly.
Key Learning
- Understand and describe the key elements and struture of a shalwar
- Identify and record measurements required to draft a shalwar pattern
- Demonstrate ability to take specific body measurements needed for drafting
- Calculate the necessary measurements for creating a shalwar
- Apply correct techniques for fabric laying, pinning, and cutting based on the drafted pattern
- Construct a shalwar belt using knife pleats with accurate spacing and secure finishing
- Prepare and complete an elasticated waistband finish
- Construct a completed shalwar to individual measurments
You will need to bring
Please do not bring heavy, stretchy or silky fabric
- Pattern drafting paper or a plain roll of white/brown paper
- 2.5m of light to medium weight cotton
- 1m to 2m of 2.54cm/1" wide elastic
- Matching colour sewing thread

Tools and equipment will be provided; we cannot accommodate using your sewing machine
Tea and coffee will be provided; we recommend bringing a light lunch/snack, or you can visit one of the local cafes/shops.
